Struggling to find community service opportunities? Community Service is a great way to get involved with your school and help out your local area.

Here at Timberlane, there are many ways to get yourself involved to better your community. Community service opportunities are all around.  For instance, a group called Project Hope is a great example of community service.  Project Hope is a group led by Mrs. Meaghan Guanci that raises money to help support those in the community affected by cancer, as well as make contributions to local cancer charities.

This group hosts many different events throughout the year to raise money, but the group’s main fundraiser is the fashion show. The fashion show will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016. There are many activities and events that this group holds, and they are always looking for more help. So if you want to help raise awareness and money for cancer, this might be the place for you. The group meets every other Friday in Room 614.

Another great community service option is an organization called Best Buddies. This group is run by senior Molly Wilmot. Best Buddies raises money for those who are disabled who work with Special Ed to help provide the best education and life for these students. Also their goal is to hold various social events for these students to help increase their role in our community. This group just hosted a Color Run at the Sandlot to raise money for Best Buddies. This group is small as of now and is looking to expand on their members. Those interested in joining the group are welcome to attend meetings on Friday afternoons in room 312.

A last option that is not directly involved with school community service is flag football reffing. If you are interested in reffing young kids who are trying to have a nice football game, contact Mr. Kevin Fitzgerlad. These games are Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. This is a great way to help out and also watch the upcoming stars of our community.

These are just some examples of community service around Timberlane. Community service is not just something that looks good on a college application, it’s a great way to give back to your community and truly help the lives of other people in need. Therefore, get involved in community service!
