Over 90 percent of teens use social networks. according to the Huffington Post..


Social networks are great for connecting with friends, sharing positive information and showing great spirit. Unfortunately, it has many not so great perks and can be used to harass others and spreading false information and that can cause problems to arise offline also.


A tweet can be seen by hundreds of people while talking can only be heard by a few.


Some of the major social networks used by teens today are Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. A major point to keep in mind for all these social networks is that you should not post anything that you wouldn’t want other people to see. What you post on social networks never disappears and could affect you later on in life. Keep in mind that creating a safe profile involves not sharing personal information.


Snapchat is a form of communication through pictures and chat that only last ten seconds. Please be aware Snapchats can be cached and retrieved again so be cautious on what you send.


Do: Use the new filters

Don’t: Don’t send inappropriate photos

Don’t: Make your story over 50 seconds

Facebook is the largest social network in the world and you can do anything from making virtual calls to posting photo albums.


Do: Post photos of your life in organized files

Do: Friend your family members


Don’t: Post any inappropriate pictures, negative opinions or comments because colleges look at your Facebook page.

Don’t: Friend someone you don’t know in real life.

Twitter Twitter is an information network made up of 140-character messages called Tweets. It’s an easy way to discover the latest news related to subjects you care about. you can also post pictures and short videos


Do: Have a humorous bio and follow funny accounts (a good laugh is always good)

Do: Have a happy, professional looking profile picture


Don’t: Indirect tweet

Don’t:  Complain in every post

Instagram is a social network for pictures and videos only.

Do: Post artsy pictures of vacations and cool experiences

Do: Use creative, funny captions


Don’t: Double post

Don’t: Dress your age and classy in your pictures


Always keep in mind a few key points.  The first thing to keep in mind is to not post things that will affect you later in life. What you post will stay out there and could affect you poorly. Another key point to remember is to keep your personal information private including your phone number, email, home address and to not use location services that share your current location.


Social networking is a great way to stay in contact with friends and family.
